DOT Physicals & Medical Cards
If your company employs CMV drivers, the Department of Transportation (DOT) requires them to complete and pass a DOT physical exam.
What Is a DOT Physical?
A DOT physical exam is a medical screening that ensures your drivers have no health issues that could negatively impact their driving performance. It detects any physical, mental, or emotional issues that could hinder a driver’s ability to properly function for lengthy periods while operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). There are several medical requirements that a CMV driver must meet in order to obtain a DOT medical card.
Some of these requirements include:
- Unimpaired vision
- A negative drug test
- Healthy blood sugar levels
- Unimpaired hearing
- Regular blood pressure and pulse
